European Commission makes more spectrum available for better and faster Wi-Fi
The 6GHz harmonization decision makes 480MHz of additional spectrum available in the 6GHz band for Wi-Fi networks across the EU, which will support a growing number of devices, online applications and innovative services that require larger bandwidth and faster speeds. Citizens and businesses will be able to enjoy better, faster, and more stable Wi-Fi connections.
This additional spectrum means that the available spectrum has almost doubled. The enhanced spectrum will reduce network congestion and thus increase speed. Making more bandwidth available for Wi-Fi services is fundamental for facilitating innovation and for reaching the proposed Digital Decade targets for 2030, according to which all European households should have gigabit connectivity. Member States shall make this frequency band available for the implementation of Wi-Fi by 1 December 2021.
